SCR CATALYSTS FOR MARINE, STATIONARY AND MOBILE APPLICATIONS

Robust & Powerful

SCR Solutions from

Emergency Power to Ship.

Gas and diesel engines, both stationary and mobile, require powerful denitrification that can handle changing loads and adapt to the available installation space. Ceram Austria's SCR catalysts are developed for demanding use on water and land: compact, thermally stable, and robust.

INDUSTRY CHALLENGE

Transient Loads. Tight Installation Space.
Strict Limits.

Engines for ships, off-road machinery, and stationary plants operate under varying conditions, often with limited installation space and increasingly stringent emission limits. This requires catalysts that are thermally robust and can be flexibly integrated into existing systems.

For decades, Ceram Austria has been developing and producing SCR catalysts for diesel and gas engine applications, with the vertical integration and technical know-how that demanding applications require.

  • IMO NOx Tier III: Stricter regulations for ship emissions are driving retrofitting and new installations.
  • EU Stage V: Emission standard for non-road mobile machinery (NRMM).
  • Structurally growing demand: Demand for compact denitrification is growing across all engine classes.

OUR SOLUTION

SCR Systems for Engine Applications.

Our engine and mobile catalysts in round and cassette designs are built modularly from monoliths and developed for each specific application.

Marine Propulsion

The decisive difference from other applications lies in fuel tolerance: heavy fuel oil (HFO) generates significantly higher SO₂ concentrations in the exhaust gas than marine diesel. Without a targeted catalyst formulation, this can lead to sulfate deposits, which cause accelerated loss of activity and corrosion in the downstream exhaust system. Ceram Austria therefore optimizes the SO₂ to SO₃ conversion rate as an integral part of the design, thus ensuring stable NOx conversion performance even with fluctuating fuel qualities. For international maritime traffic with IMO NOx Tier III certification, the catalysts are tailored to the specific engine type, fuel, and exhaust gas conditions. Cassettes and catalyst packaging can be individually adapted in material and design to meet the spatial conditions on board as well as the mechanical stresses from vibration and fuel changes during operation.

Heavy-Duty, Off-Road & Locomotives

For off-road machinery, heavy commercial vehicles, and rail vehicles, Ceram Austria has developed and certified catalysts for a wide range of international emission standards and has entered series production for the off-highway market in 9.5" and 12" diameters. In addition to pure NOx catalysts, Ceram Austria also offers oxidation catalysts for these applications, which specifically convert CO and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), as well as combination catalysts that combine both functions in one carrier. The cassette system, together with the selection of different CPSI configurations and vanadium contents, allows for the installation of application-specific activity levels, from forestry machines to diesel railcars. All mobile catalysts are designed with regard to mechanical resilience against vibration and thermal cycling during cold starts.

Stationary Engines & Emergency Power Generators

Stationary gas engines and emergency power generators are often part of critical infrastructure such as data centers, peak load power plants, or grid frequency stabilization systems, where denitrification must reliably engage from the first start-up, even after a standstill. Peak load power plants must ramp up within a few seconds and withstand large load gradients to compensate for fluctuations from renewable energy sources, which is why the catalyst must be designed for frequent start-stop cycles without losing performance. Ceram Austria develops SCR catalysts for all common fuels, from natural gas and diesel to LNG/LPG, whose exhaust gas composition and reaction conditions differ fundamentally depending on the fuel. Where CO limits must also be met in addition to NOx, Ceram Austria's oxidation catalysts in low-sulfur exhaust gases complement the system to provide a complete exhaust gas aftertreatment solution from a single source.

WHY CERAM AUSTRIA

Design: Tailored to Engine & Installation Space
Engine type, load profile, temperature window, and available installation space determine the design, number, and length of the modules. Ceram Austria designs each catalyst individually, drawing on experience from a wide range of stationary engine and turbine applications worldwide.

Production: In-house Manufacturing in Europe
The development and series production of all products take place at Ceram's site in Frauental, Austria. Ceram has a broad modular system of standard solutions to ensure short delivery times, high quality, and low product costs.

Service: Support Throughout the Operating Life
Ceram Austria provides consultation on the design, replacement, and optimization of catalysts throughout their entire life cycle. We support operators from initial design and commissioning to catalyst replacement, helping to keep NOx conversion performance and operating costs permanently in the optimal range.
