SCR, OXIDATION & RTO HEAT MEDIA

Controlling emissions,

recovering heat

for chemicals and petrochemicals.

FCC, crackers, and refinery processes present complex requirements: NOx reduction, CO and VOC oxidation, and thermal exhaust gas treatment must integrate efficiently. Ceram Austria develops high-performance ceramic components for this purpose, tailored to the process, temperature window, and operating conditions.

INDUSTRY CHALLENGE

Changing processes. Multiple pollutants.

Refinery and petrochemical processes are rarely constant and often require more than just denitrification. Nitrogen oxides, VOCs, and CO must be managed simultaneously across a wide, fluctuating operating window.

In FCC units, ethylene crackers, and other refinery processes, temperature and pollutant profiles change according to the respective operating parameters. Unlike pure NOx sources, multiple pollutants often occur together here: nitrogen oxides as well as volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and carbon monoxide (CO).

This requires a catalyst that remains reliably high-performing across a wide temperature window. A high ammonia storage capacity ensures stable NOx conversion and good controllability, even when process conditions fluctuate.

  • Stricter emission regulations: Requirements for exhaust gas purification are increasing for refineries and petrochemicals.
  • Methane & VOC regulation: Reducing volatile compounds is a priority development goal.
  • Retrofit market: Existing plants must be retrofitted and represent a growing market for combined catalysis.

OUR SOLUTION

Catalysis and heat recovery from a single source.

Refinery and petrochemical processes require catalyst systems that reliably treat multiple pollutants simultaneously and across a wide operating window. Ceram Austria designs honeycomb catalysts and ceramic heat storage media for RTOs specifically for each plant, tailored to the pollutant composition, process temperatures, and the individual operating characteristics of the plant.

SCR honeycomb catalysts

SCR honeycomb catalysts from Ceram Austria reliably and permanently reduce nitrogen oxides in industrial exhaust gas streams. Each catalyst is designed specifically for the plant, tailored to the exhaust gas temperature, pollutant composition, and the operating characteristics of the respective plant. This ensures consistently high NOx conversion with minimal pressure drop and optimized operating costs over the entire life cycle.

Typical processes as a basis for design

FCC units, ethylene crackers, and petrochemical cracking processes place special demands on exhaust gas purification: varying throughputs, changing operating modes, and complex pollutant compositions require catalysts that remain reliably high-performing across a wide temperature window. For refinery and process gas streams with individual emission profiles, Ceram Austria develops fully customized designs that take into account the actual pollutant mix and the operating behavior of each gas stream.
