Over more than a century, the plant has changed its legal form, name, and owners several times, yet it has always remained one thing: a specialist in technical ceramics.

Ceram Austria's roots go back to 1921, when the "Erste Österreichische Porzellanfabrik" was established in Frauental an der Laßnitz, initially specializing in high-, medium-, and low-voltage insulators.

Over the decades, this long-established company has become an internationally active technology provider: it has been producing SCR catalysts and honeycomb ceramics since 1985 as the first manufacturer outside Japan, has used the "Ceram" brand since 1990, and operates subsidiaries in the USA and South Korea.

Since March 30, 2022, the company has once again been Austrian-owned. Under owner DI Christian Kögl, it was renamed Ceram Austria GmbH, and numerous investments have since been made to secure the site's future and drive growth.

In 2026, the shareholder base expanded to include strategically committed partners: Franz Mayr-Melnhof-Saurau, together with FMMS Holding GmbH and Raiffeisen Continuum Holding GmbH, acquired 20% of Ceram Group Holding. This commitment by renowned Austrian investors strengthens the Frauental site and supports the company's long-term development in skills, technology, and innovation.
