ROBUST SCR DENITRIFICATION FOR HEAVY INDUSTRY

Denitrification under

the harshest conditions.

Robust and durable.

Cement, steel, glass: In heavy industry, high dust loads, high temperatures, and long service lives converge. Ceram Austria's SCR catalysts are precisely designed for this, custom-configured, and developed for maximum NOx conversion and service life.

INDUSTRY CHALLENGE

Harshest processes. Predictable replacement.

Plants for the cement, steel, and glass industries are among the most demanding environments for catalysis: high and abrasive dust loads, high temperatures, and the demand for long service lives require systems designed for these conditions from the outset.

Exhaust gases are corrosive and abrasive, load conditions fluctuate, and the catalyst must maintain its NOx selectivity over long operating periods.

At the same time, heavy industrial processes are at the heart of decarbonization policy. Cement and steel, as CO₂-intensive sectors, are under increasing regulatory pressure. This demands robust, durable denitrification for uninterrupted and predictable operation.

  • EU ETS & CBAM: Cement and steel, as CO₂-intensive sectors, are at the center of emissions trading and the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism.
  • Industrial Emissions Directive (IED): Tightened requirements are driving the retrofitting of existing plants.
  • High retrofitting pressure: Decarbonization and emission reduction are being strongly pushed in heavy industry.

OUR SOLUTION

Robust catalysts, optimized for the respective application.

Each catalyst is designed based on the specific operating parameters of the respective plant: gas composition, dust characteristics, temperature level, and load profile are incorporated into the dimensioning. This results in a solution that reliably meets emission limits while being economically optimized over the entire operating period.

Honeycomb Catalysts (High-Dust)

The honeycomb structure of Ceram catalysts is specifically designed for the mechanical requirements of high-dust operation. Defined channel geometries ensure uniform gas flow and minimize particle deposits on the catalyst surface, while the material-specific formulation ensures high erosion resistance. Cell density, channel length, and chemical composition are individually matched to the actual dust characteristics and temperature level for each plant.

Maximum NOx Reduction

The catalytically active mass of Ceram honeycomb catalysts is characterized by a high specific surface area, which enables an efficient reaction between nitrogen oxides and the introduced reducing agent. A generously dimensioned ammonia storage capacity maintains denitrification performance at a constant level even during transient operating conditions. At the same time, the undesirable oxidation of SO₂ to SO₃ is consistently minimized, which reduces corrosion risks in the downstream plant area and extends cleaning intervals.

☆

Systematically utilize process waste heat.

In energy-intensive processes in the glass, steel, and aluminum industries, there is significant savings potential in the recovery of process waste heat. Ceram Austria offers ceramic heat storage solutions for this purpose, which are tailored to the thermal and operational requirements of industrial high-temperature processes and achieve high efficiency with low pressure loss. For thermal energy storage, the Ceram Solarstone is also available: a ceramic energy storage brick with optimized geometry and maximized heat storage capacity for use in industrial thermal storage units.
